Engine Malfunctions (CATO)

Like all items that are manufactured, rocket motors can malfunction. The term that is commonly used for a engine malfunction is CATO. 

Engine malfunctions include:

• failure for the propellent to burn properly
• ejection charge is insufficient
• The upper clay cap fails to release the ejection charge to deploy the recovery device.

Should any of these events happen it is important to notify Estes at service@estesrockets.com. 

When notifying us, include the following items:

• Pictures of the damaged rocket.
• Pictures of the malfunctioning engine. Please include the production code that was printed on the side of the engine.
• Your shipping address so that we can send you replacement items if we determine it was a CATO.
